Forest school

Within our grounds we have a natural woodland area, which we use to provide Forest School sessions for the children. This enables them to play in a natural environment; teaching the children how to utilise different opportunities and benefit from spending time outside. Our aim is to focus on learning that supports the children’s emotional, social and behavioural development as well as all areas of learning and development within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We have two qualified Forest School Leaders, whose training has taught them a range of skills and strategies, developing a sound knowledge of the Forest School approach. A high adult-child ratio dependent on the children’s age allows for practitioners to learn alongside the children in this ever-changing environment.

Through child-led engagement with the children, we can ensure that they learn at such a deep level that they are not distracted by anything around them and are so engaged they can return to their original investigations, remembering what they have learnt even after a long period of time. Following the children’s innate drive to play, we are teaching skills that will support them in becoming life long motivated learners.
